65W, 100W, and 140W are ceilings for a connection under supported conditions. They do not promise that every device will draw that much power. The device, charger or bank, cable, and active ports all affect what is available.
What changes as the rating rises
| Rating | What the extra output is for | Example in our catalog |
|---|---|---|
| 65W | Enough for a laptop that supports USB-C charging and calls for no more than 65W. | The Anker Power Bank 20K and the single-port Anker 715 charger each supply up to 65W from USB-C. The 715 cannot charge a second device at the same time. Power bank specifications Charger specifications |
| 100W | More headroom for a laptop that supports and calls for more than 65W. | The Anker Laptop Power Bank 25K can deliver up to 100W from one USB-C connection. Its 165W figure is shared output. Specifications Power allocation |
| 140W | A specialized ceiling for a device that can negotiate the higher level, or a setup powering more than one demanding device. | The Anker Prime Power Bank 26K rates either USB-C port up to 140W with a compatible device and 5A cable. Its 300W total is shared across outputs. Specifications |
The bigger number is useful only when the device can accept it. USB Power Delivery negotiates supported power between compatible equipment; a 140W source will not make a laptop designed for 65W take more. The cable also has to support the connection’s power level. USB-IF Power Delivery overview
Single-port power and total output are different numbers
A multiport bank has a shared budget. The Anker Power Bank 20K, for example, is rated for 87W total but up to 65W from one USB-C connection. The Laptop Power Bank’s 165W and the Prime bank’s 300W are likewise totals across connections, not single-device promises. Plugging in another device can change the distribution.
